I qualified as a solicitor in 2001 and have over twenty years’ experience as an employment solicitor and employment tribunal advocate. Since 2010, I have been a Partner at Smith Partnership, heading up the Employment Department based at the Derby office.
My role sees me represent a large portfolio of employers both large and small, as well as act on behalf of employees on a full range of employment-related legal matters.
My expertise includes day-to-day employment law / HR issues, senior executive terminations, settlement agreements, employment tribunal proceedings including complex discrimination claims, director disputes, drafting complex employment documentation and dealing with TUPE transactions.
My team and I are extremely proactive and have set up monthly legal clinics in association with both Derby and Leicester Citizens Advice Bureaus. Our aim is to plug the gap caused by the substantial reduction in funding available in employment cases. We also provide HR training forums, including employment law updates and guest speaker events, as well as carry out bespoke training for our commercial clients on key areas of employment / HR law.
While I would like to describe myself as an athlete, reality is telling me something different. While I have completed several half-marathons over the years, I have recently opted for a change of pace and taken up golf – while I'm not a natural, I’m getting there!
I am also kept busy ferrying my two daughters around and despite being a proud Yorkshireman (I was born in Leeds), I like to spend time watching Manchester United.
