Care and protection…
The protection of children is of paramount importance and acting in the best interest of the child/ren and their legal rights is at the core of the legal advice we offer.
Legal issues surrounding children can be both highly sensitive and very complex, with emotions often running high. This is often especially the case when a local authority is involved and in such instances, you need dedicated and expert legal advice. For other private law children matters, where a local authority is not involved, our Family Department is able to offer the necessary expertise and legal know-how.
When you require specialist advice and representation, in child care cases involving a local authority, our dedicated child care team includes experienced legal professionals who are able to quickly get to grips with the situation and establish whether there is a legal case to answer.
We understand that the legal world can be filled with jargon and terms which not everyone understands. This is why we adopt a straight-talking approach, taking the time to explain any legal terms and your legal position, as well as advise on the best course of action for your case.
Our main aim is helping to achieve the best possible result for you and the child/ren involved. Muctar Johal is a solicitor advocate and our team includes seven members who are recognised by the Law Society as experts in their field and are members of the Law Society’s Children Panel (CP).
Our team members are based at our Derby, Leicester, Burton-upon-Trent and Swadlincote offices and are led by Legal 500 leading individual, Muctar Johal.

In our view…
“We represent children, parents, carers and extended family members in all aspects of the law, particularly when a local authority is involved.
Our dedicated team of specialists have expertise across the whole range of public law child care matters, from the most complex to the least. This includes cases involving children’s deaths, serious injuries, child rape, serious sexual abuse and exploitation, neglect and emotional harm. We also have expertise in cases with an international element.
Our extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of the processes and procedures, both in pre-proceedings and in court, enables us to clearly advise and guide clients through what can be an incredibly stressful, difficult and complex time.
We are able to arrange non-means tested legal aid for parents and children in care proceedings. Parents also qualify for legal aid in some pre-proceedings matters involving their children. Wider family members can be assessed for their entitlement to legal aid if they are involved in proceedings.”
