Although I have the strategic responsibility for our Conveyancing and Probate teams, my “day job” continues to be working in our Personal Injury department. I do not spend as much of my time fee earning as I used to do but for the last 20 years or so I have specialised in recovering compensation for people who have been seriously injured in road traffic collisions or have been the victims of criminal assaults. During this time I have worked with clients who have suffered the most serious of injuries, for example traumatic brain injury, blindness, paralysis, extensive burns. My focus has always been to maximise the amount of compensation but at the same time trying to secure the best rehabilitation possible so our clients can return to as near their pre-accident condition as possible.
My role as Head of Private Client allows me to drive the departments forward. We have very talented people in place. I am happy to leave the day-to-day legal work to them and I see my role as making sure that we have a suitable regulatory, practical, and technological framework in place to deliver excellent client care. Much of our work comes from happy previous clients and referrers who recognise our ability to do a good job. We continue to attract new referrers and I look forward to welcoming more on board.
I enjoy being outside when not at work. This often takes the form of local walks, watching sports and playing golf. I have been the Secretary of the Derby and District Law Society Golf Society for many years.
“Simon, I firmly believe nobody could have done a better job than you have! I now think of Smiths as 'my' solicitors and whenever I need legal advice (both personal and for my business) I'll be straight back.”
