Waving a fond farewell to Joan after 50 years service at Smith Partnership

Smith Partnership, one of largest firms of solicitors in the East Midlands, is saying a very fond farewell to one of its employees, Joan Riley this month, as she retires following a 50 year career at the firm.

Serving thousands of private clients and helping them buying their dream house.  Joan has worked since 1967 serving people from all over the country.  Starting her career at Fishers in Swadlincote, making tea, answering the telephone and doing deliveries - there was no DX in those days!

Moving then to Drewry & Newbold in October 1966, which where most of Joan’s working life has been spent until merging with Smith Partnership.  Joan first worked for a number of Solicitors, one in particular was Andrew Phillips for whom she worked for almost 30 years dealing with the Conveyancing work.

The team of professionals at Smith Partnership can offer a full range of private legal services for members of the public, to manage some of the most important events in their lives.

Joan will be handing over the reins to her colleague Susan Woodall and wishes her well for the future, she said: ““I am so proud to have provided such an important service to members of the public on matters so important to them.  Moving house can be one of the most stressful events and I would like to think that I eased the stress for my clients by offering a brilliant service. I know the team will continue this valued service and provide the best possible legal advice to our clients.

It has also been my enormous pleasure to have helped so many clients throughout my career.  Over the years working I have met and worked for some wonderful people which has given me the most job satisfaction.

I could not possibly begin to calculate how how many clients I have dealt with over the years, other than to say that I have possibly acted for their children and even grandchildren  The best motto I have always believed in is try to give the same service to people you would want for yourself.”

Smith Partnership’s CEO, Steve Mann spoke about retirement: “We are all very sad to see Joan leave our team, she is a fantastic Conveyancer and trusted advisor to our private clients, offering expertise to support. She will be greatly missed and we wish her a very happy retirement!”

Susan Woodall, Joan’s successor, joined Smith Partnership in 2017.   She is a highly experienced senior Solicitor dealing with all aspects of residential conveyancing including new builds, plot sales, remortgages, including equity release transactions, leasehold flats and apartments, Help to Buy and shared ownership cases. She also has experience in commercial property transactions including leases.
