Thought of the day
As an avid Leicester City football supporter, I have shared the stress of the threat of relegation and ecstasy of the “ Great Escape” with my fellow supporters where each match counted.
The meteoric rise of our team to being the favourites to win the Premier League seems like a dream come true for the players and the fans alike. Only recently there has been an article in the Leicester Mercury titled “if City win the title, get ready to party” with talk of County Hall organising a potential party for winning the Premier League.
Among the midst of the dream, one thing that strikes me is the constant reference by the Manager, Claudio Ranieri to concentrate on the present and concentrate on the match in hand. He does not talk about the past or the future of a win. Whilst we watched in trepidation at the edge of our seats in the hope that neither Tottenham nor Arsenal won to leap frog the Foxes in the league tables, we hear of the manager enjoying a meal out with his family and nor worrying about how well our rivals played. Raneri was quoted to say that he was not taking notice of the rivals. His only focus is Leicester, saying “We wanted to be safe. Now there is something new but you can only achieve if you think match by match, not what happens next" The training and the resting periods of the players are all geared to the match in hand.
The Hindu guru, Sai Baba taught “what matters is to live in the present, live now, for every moment is now. It is your thoughts and acts of the moment that create your future. The outline of your future path already exists, for you created its pattern by your past”
We often worry about what has happened to us, what we did or said to others in the past which can not be changed, or about what may happen in the future which we can not control. A lot of time and energy is wasted worrying about the past or the future when it is out of our control. The only thing that we can control is the present day, our actions and thoughts of today which will create our future and give us peace of mind.
Be mindful of living fully in the present today.
