Smith Partnership celebrates with Derby’s Finest women at second event!
Derby’s Finest – a new group which celebrates and supports women who make a positive contribution to the county of Derbyshire – hosted sixty-five women at its second event on Wednesday 12th July held at Derbyshire County Cricket Ground.
Derby’s Finest networking group was formed in Spring 2017 by four local business women; Claire Twells - Smith Partnership Solicitors, April Hayhurst - Derby College, Bev Crighton - The University of Derby and Amanda Strong - Mercia Image Print.
The four founder partners have pledged to seek out the unsung heroines of the county and to recognise their outstanding support and selfless contributions to their community.
The much anticipated second event welcomed sixty-five women from a wide range of organisations and businesses in Derbyshire, who watched the Women’s World Cup match, when England beat New Zealand, whilst enjoying a two course lunch.
Jackie Clarke, Finance and Operations Director at Burn the Book Ltd in Derby said why she attended the event: “I am very proud to have attended both events for Derby’s Finest this year, as I have met some truly special women and I believe the group will grow from strength to strength.”
Chief Executive of Derbyshire County Cricket Ground, Simon Storey spoke about the event: “We were delighted to host the second Derby’s Finest event at The 3aaa County Ground. Whilst cricket is our focus, we want to encourage more women and girls across the county to lead more active, healthy lives.
“We hope that the opportunity to see the best female cricket players in the world inspires women and girls locally to get more involved in their local Clubs and associations, whatever the sport.”
During the day the ladies also raised more money for their chosen charity for 2017 – Prostate Cancer UK. Successful Derby-born fashion textile designer Saima Majid, who has worked for global brands Laura Ashley and Monsoon, has designed a scarf especially for Derby’s Finest with a donation from every sale also going to Prostrate Cancer UK.
At the end of the event the Derby’s Finest group were all asked to seek out other women within their community to join them at their next event on 21st September, which is being held at Seven on Pride Park.
