FREE GDPR seminar
We are pleased to be offering a FREE GDPR seminar to all businesses, at Derbyshire County Cricket Club on Thursday 1st March at 8am until 10.30am.
The FREE seminar will provide an opportunity for delegates to be prepare for the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), which is coming into force from 25th May 2018. The teams at Smith Partnership understand that businesses will store and process a variety of types of personal data, whether through customer databases, marketing records, sales information or personnel records. However, the new regulations aim to provide a set of standardised data protection laws across all the member countries. This should make it easier for EU citizens to understand how their data is being used, and also raise any complaints, even if they are not in the country where it’s located.
To what type of businesses will the new regulations apply?
GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) will affect every UK organisation holding or processing personal data.
Under GDPR, there is a responsibility to keep that data safe, and to take accountability for how the data is collected, stored and used. It will be essential to understand how your current practices may need to be changed to ensure compliance. Among many new stringent requirements and rules, one of the biggest challenges will be how you obtain consent to hold and process data, and how this consent must be recorded. GDPR will be enforced through substantial potential fines for infringements and it essential that all organisations take pro-active steps to safeguard their business.
We will be hosting a FREE GDPR breakfast seminar on 1st March at Derbyshire County Cricket Club at 8am, finishing around 10.30am with speaker Jane Sarginson, a Barrister at St Philips Chambers. Jane will set out the legal obligations and provide advice on the type of policies, procedures and documentation that you will need to implement before this key legislation comes into force, and how to prevent issues from arising once it is in place to help you and your business understand these very important legislative changes and what you need to do to prepare for GDPR.
Fraser Cunningham, Partner and head of Corporate and Commercial said: “We are delighted to be hosting this seminar for local businesses. We will be hosting the event, along with Jane, where everything the delegates need to know about the new regulations will be explained.
“We hope our seminars continue to be an opportunity for local business owners to pick up some important legal information and practical tips, within an informal atmosphere.”
