Derby's Finest scores a Sixty-five at second event
Derby's Finest - a new group which celebrates and supports women who make a positive contribution to the county of Derbyshire - hosted sixty-five women at its second event on Wednesday 12th July at the Derbyshire County Cricket Ground.
The new networking group in Derbyshire, which launched in March 2017, with fifty ladies in attendance, pledged to seek out the unsung heroines of the county and to recognise their outstanding support and selfless contributions to their community.
The much anticipated second event welcomed sixty-five women from a wide range of organisations and businesses in Derbyshire, who watched the Women's World Cup match, when England beat New Zealand, whilst enjoying a two course lunch.
Jackie Clarke, Finance and Operations Director at Burn the Book Ltd in Derby said why she was attending the event: "I am very proud to have attended both events for Derby's Finest this year, as I have met some truly special women and I believe the group will grow from strength to strength."
Chief Executive of Derbyshire County Cricket Ground, Simon Storey spoke about the event: "We were delighted to host the second Derby's Finest event at the 3aaa County Ground. Whilst cricket is our focus, we want to encourage more women and girls across the county to lead more active, healthy lives. We hope that the opportunity to see the best female cricket players in the world inspires more women and girls locally to get more involved in their local Clubs and associations, whatever the sport."
Derby's Finest was formed in Spring 2017 by Claire Twells from Smith Partnership Solicitors, April Hurst from Derby College, Bev Crighton form the University of Derby and Amanda Strong from Mercia Image Print.
During the day the ladies also raised over £360.00 for its chosen charity for 2017 - Prostate Cancer UK.
Successful Derby-born fashion textile designer Saima Majid, who has worked for global brands Laura Ashley and Monsoon, has designed a scarf especially for Derby's Finest with a donation from every sale going to Prostate Cancer UK.
Derby's Finest was inspired by a feature in the Derby Telegraph - Inspirational 250 - which included some of the top female business leaders in the city and county.
Organisers now want to spread the membership wider across the local communtiy to reflect the diverse and important roles that women hold and the positive impact they make.
At the end of the event the Derby's Finest group were also asked to seek out other women within their community to join them at their next event, which was held in September 2017 at Seven on Pride Park.
