Individuals are often beset with problems that would best be solved by taking advice from a solicitor but the potential solution is ignored because of the fear of the cost.

Most people have heard a horror story about legal costs and as a profession solicitors have hardly covered themselves in glory when it comes to fair pricing! However matters have improved and these days rather than let a dispute slide out of control take legal advice early and get the result you desire.

Government to look for ways to avoid family conflicts ending up in Court

The Government are looking to support families in helping to prevent and resolve marriage and relationship breakdown issues by giving support and recognising the roles of Fathers, Mothers, Grandparents as well as the extended family.

They are currently looking to improve flexible working for parents and family friendly employment rights, as well as reviewing the family justice system to look at alternative ways for family conflicts to be dealt with out of the Courts.

We have a factsheet called “A dozen good reasons to make a will”, but there is even more good reason why you should make a will if you are in a second or subsequent marriage and there are children from an earlier marriage.

John and Mary marry. John has children from a previous marriage. They don’t make wills. He dies and his estate passes entirely to his spouse. She then dies. Problem… John’s children are entitled to nothing under the law of intestacy.
